How often should I update my
Virus Software?
If you have a Broadband (Cable/DSL) Internet Connection, you
should set your computer to automatically update its virus
signatures every day. Every anti-virus package
comes with a scheduler (ie. McAfee uses Task Scheduler, Norton
uses LiveUpdate) that you can set to automatically download and
install the latest signatures.
If you use a dial-up connection, it is advisable that you update
your signatures once each week. In either case, if there
is ever a major virus outbreak or alert, it never hurts to
update your signatures immediately.
